Junior Volunteers
The
Junior Volunteer Program is designed to provide an opportunity for
young people to give caring and meaningful service to residents

Bluff Terrace Nursing Home Volunteering
Volunteering at Bluff Terrace provides residents with the opportunity
to interact with young people. Many inter-generational activities
are offered to residents and volunteers in an effort to create active
participation and enjoyable companionship. Saturday mornings involve
various planned activities (including crafts, cooking, games, and
special events) provided in conjunction with the Bluff Terrace activity
department. Volunteers also assist the nursing staff with replenishing
ice water and linens. On Thursday evenings, volunteers take the
residents to the south campus cafeteria and serve dinner "restaurant-style,"
creating a fun and pleasant atmosphere for everyone.
Mercy
Child Care and Preschool
Volunteers at the childcare center offer staff enthusiastic and
capable after-school help. This often involves reading, rocking,
and playing games with the young children.
North Campus Volunteering
Volunteers at the north campus provide assistance to patients in
an acute care setting. These volunteers help with delivering meal
trays and replenishing patients' ice water, in addition to working
directly with hospital staff in pediatrics, health information management,
ER, Radiology, Materials Management, Human Resources, Public Relations,
and several various opportunities.
Wyndcrest Nursing Home Volunteering
Volunteering at Wyndcrest offers both the residents and staff an
opportunity to interact with dedicated and enthusiastic students.
These volunteers bring the magic of youth and companionship to the
activities planned on Saturday mornings, in addition to visiting
residents, delivering newspapers and mail, and replenishing ice
water.
Summer
Program
Volunteering opportunities are available during the summer months
for students ages 12 and above. Special events and activities are
planned with an inter-generational feeling in cooperation with Mercy's
activity departments at Bluff Terrace and Wyndcrest nursing homes.
During the week, help may also be provided at Mercy Child Care and
Preschool working with infants and children. Volunteers can contribute
between 2 and 15 hours per week.
