In these pictures the Earth Retention Wall is being installed.
It consists of 20 "soldier" piles that are drilled
and embedded 3'-4' in bedrock approx 30 feet below the existing
ground floor of the hospital. They are further reinforced by
installation of a high tensile steel anchors that are drilled
into bedrock at a 45 degree angle approx. 30' underneath the
hospital's existing foundation. This system is required to stabilize
and isolate the existing facility from construction activity
and allow for installation of the deep foundation system that
will support the New Cancer Center. |

These two pictures show the amount of material
(100 tandem dump trucks) being stockpiled for backfilling the
building foundation. This material is being stored north of
15th Avenue North, note the tulip tree in the immediate forefront
of the pictures. |

A 60" diameter steel casing is set in a
caisson hole to in preparation to drill to rock auger refusal.
This particular caisson was drilled to a depth of 45+ feet before
encountering bed rock. |

Gang forms are assembled for the retaining walls.
These forms are assembled in 22' x 26' sections and weigh approx.
8500 pounds. |

The North Retaining Wall has been poured and
the gang forms stripped. |

The Hydroduct Drainage Board has been installed
on the North Retaining Wall. |

The Gang Forms for the West Foundation Wall are
be set by a 30 Ton crane. |
