Mercy’s
Wyndcrest Facility Participates in Quality Initiative
Program Designed to Improve Care, Promote
Dignity and
Choice for Residents, and Reduce Staff Turnover
CLINTON , Iowa – Mercy Medical Center officials announced
today that they volunteered to participate in a three-year
quality improvement program for Wyndcrest, its skilled nursing
and rehabilitation facility. Management at the 86-bed facility
on Mercy’s North Campus will work closely with the
Iowa Foundation for Medical Care (IFMC) to improve quality
of life and care for their residents. The focus of their
efforts will be on management of pressure ulcers, physical
restraints, depression, and pain.
“We are continually enhancing our programs to offer
the 'best' quality of care services to each
person,” said Kent Jorgensen, Vice President of Aging
Services at Mercy. “We are excited to be selected and
to collaborate for the second time with this state and federal
initiative. These new and additional resources of information
will assist us in fulfilling our mission at Mercy.”
IFMC is working with Wyndcrest and other nursing homes across
Iowa to individualize the care provided to residents, which
includes more resident-directed choices about care and routines
as part of daily living. The group will also work to identify
ways to retain nurturing staff members who are dedicated
to high quality care. Improving ways to foster relationships
with residents’ families and friends will also aid
in creating a more comfortable environment for both residents
and staff.
“Wyndcrest is truly committed to transforming care,
creating a home where residents live their lives in a private
and dignified manner,” said Kim Downs, Senior Director
of Health Care Quality Programs at IFMC.
