Mercy Renews National Accreditation for Ultrasound Imaging
Clinton, Iowa –Mercy Medical Center – Clinton has been granted a three-year term of accreditation in ultrasound imaging as a result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR) . The accreditation process is voluntary and is repeated every three years to ensure that standards are being maintained.
The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va., awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of practice. Board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field conduct the evaluations. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment.
According to Jeffrey Hallman, M.D., radiology medical director at Mercy, “This accreditation is an integral part of our ongoing effort to provide high quality service to the community. Anyone who has an ultrasound image at the hospital can be assured they are getting a proper exam from highly trained individuals.”
Mercy Medical Center is one of a select number of hospitals in the country at the forefront of the new voluntary ultrasound accreditation process, Hallman noted. The hospital also is accredited by the ACR for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and is state of Iowa and federally accredited for mammography.
The ACR serves more than 32,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology, and the delivery of comprehensive healthcare services.
