Mercy Healthcare Foundation Announces Estate Gifts

Mercy Healthcare Foundation recently announced the receipt of three estate gifts, which will be used to benefit services provided by Mercy Medical Center. The gifts were received from the following:

  • Dorothy J. Pratt, widow of Harry J. Pratt (Northwestern Bell Telephone Company), through her charitable trust donated $29,000 to Mercy Medical Center-Clinton for Mercy Home Health Care and Hospice in appreciation of the services offered.
  • Leone Welton granted Mercy Healthcare Foundation a gift of $230,000 through her estate. Mrs. Welton, widow of Gerald A. Welton, a retired DuPont employee, was manager of the Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Store in Clinton for many years. The estate gift will be used to ensure that Mercy Medical Center-Clinton continues to meet the healthcare needs of the community.
  • Myron and Polly Weil have named Mercy Healthcare Foundation the beneficiary of an $80,000 charitable annuity trust. Myron was President of the First National Bank for 16 years and served on the Board of Directors of Mercy Medical Center-Clinton. Myron and his wife, Polly were philanthropists to many of Clinton's charitable projects. Their gift will be combined with the gifts they have made over the years to the Myron and Polly Weil endowment fund.

Mercy Healthcare Foundation was formed in 1989 and raises funds to support equipment purchases and enhance programs of the medical center. Since inception, the foundation has raised more than $6 million to establish new services or to improve the service to patients and residents.

With community support, the foundation has granted 410 health care scholarships totaling $257,000 and has assisted Mercy Medical Center in investing $100 million to improve medical center facilities, upgrade technology and provide new services to the community.
