Med Tree Program Accepting Donations
Mercy Medical Center is once again sponsoring the Med Tree Program during the holiday season. The purpose of the campaign is to raise funds for the Emergency Prescription Fund that assists persons in the community with emergency medication needs. The fund is administered by the Information, Referral, and Assistance Services office in Clinton.
The number of people in need, along with the cost of medications, continues to grow. Sometimes people have to choose between buying groceries or buying their needed medications. Last year $6,000 was raised through the Med Tree campaign and those funds were depleted already by fall through the Information, Referral and Assistance Prescription Fund due to the many needs in the community. The goal this year is to raise $6,500.
“The community has been very supportive of this campaign in the past, and we are asking for your support again this year. There are many people who continue to struggle to make ends meet, and we want to assure them that there is a resource to help pay for emergency medications when needed,” says Judy Wallace, director of social services at Mercy and coordinator of the Med Tree program.
Mercy Medical Center and Information, Referral, and Assistance Services greatly appreciate and depend on this campaign to help meet the needs in the community.
The campaign will run through January 5, 2007. Donations can be sent to Med Tree, Mercy Medical Center, 1410 N. 4 th St., Clinton, IA 52732 or can be dropped off at the Switchboard at the Mercy North Campus. Donation cards bearing the name of the contributor will be hung on a small tree in the lobby at Mercy North Campus. For more information please contact Judy Wallace at (563) 244-5614.
