Clinton announces
the selection of two of their nurses as
“100 Great Iowa
Nurses for 2005”
It is with pride that Mercy Medical Center – Clinton announces
the selection of two (2) of their nurses as “100 Great Iowa
Nurses for 2005”. The nurses are: Becky Gluesing, RN, BSN
and Kamalini Kumar, RN, MA, PhD(c). The award recognizes them for
making a meaningful and lasting contribution to humanity and the
nursing profession. The Great Iowa Nurses are also viewed as mentors
to others and exemplify all the principles on which the 100 Great
Iowa Nurses Celebration was founded
Becky is the Resource Nurse in Mercy’s Operating Room. She
graduated from the University of Iowa with a BSN in 1974; she also
holds a CNOR (certified nurse-operating room) since 1983. Becky
recently completed the Trinity Health Leadership Academy in 2004
where she researched and developed the Implementation of Reprocessing
Service. Becky has worked at the hospital since 1974 with twenty-nine
years of that time in the Operating Room; she has been a member
of AORN since 1979. Becky is active in the Trinity Lutheran Church;
she has been a member of the American Cancer Society Relay for
Life where she’s headed the Luminary Ceremony for the past
7 years.
Kamalini has more than 35 years of teaching experience. She taught
nursing in India, Canada and the United States. For the past 15
years, she has presented papers at national and international conferences
dealing with spiritual care, death and dying, cultural diversity
and human relationship issues. She is currently on the educational
staff of Mercy Medical Center and is involved in team, leadership
and staff development. She is a current member of the Transcultural
Nursing Society. Kamilini is also an active community leader. She’s
been the past president of Clinton YWCA, active in the Foundation
for Educational Excellence, The Crisis Pregnancy Center, American
Cancer Society and the regional chapter of the Iowa Society of
Health Educators. Her past involvements include membership on the
Board of Trustees of Mount St. Clare College and the Clinton Symphony
Orchestra.
Becky and Kamalini will be honored, in the company of family,
friends and colleagues on May 10th at the Des Moines Marriot Downtown.
