What is a hospitalist?
A hospitalist is a physician specializing in the care of hospitalized patients. Your doctor may decide to coordinate your care with a hospitalist during your stay here. The benefits for you include 24 hour / 7 day a week coverage while you are a patient at Mercy - Clinton. This means you have access to a doctor’s care around-the-clock, which is especially important in the event of any unforeseen changes in your health.
In addition, hospitalists are available to admit and discharge, which may prevent unwanted delays. Orders can also be given and test results obtained quicker due to the on-site availability of the hospitalist.
Is my doctor aware of the care I’m receiving?
Yes. Our hospitalists have ongoing communication with your physician in addition to access to your medical history. Upon discharge, a comprehensive report is forwarded to your personal physician for your follow-up care.
