Benefits Overview
Mercy Medical Center (MMC) provides competitive wages and a comprehensive
benefits program. The following is a brief outline of benefits available
to eligible employees.
Employment/Compensation
Performance Evaluations - Employees will receive a performance
evaluation at six months from date of hire and annually thereafter.
Performance evaluations aid the employee in growth and development.
Promotion/Transfer - All qualified employees will be given first
consideration for open positions within the health system. Openings
are listed in designated areas at all MMC campuses. Career opportunities
within operating divisions of Mercy Health Services (MHS) are available
for your review in the Human Resources Office. Service date and
retirement accrual are maintained with transfer.
Pay Practices - Employees are paid on a bi-weekly basis. All hourly
employees are paid time and one-half for time worked over 40 hours
in one week. Hourly employees will also be paid shift differentials
for evening, night and weekend shifts.
Insurance Plans
(*Part-time employees eligible for insurance benefits are defined
as those budgeted 32 or more hours per pay period.)
Health Insurance - Full-time and part-time employees are eligible
for health insurance on the first of the month following 30 days
of employment. Dependent coverage is also available. The cost for
health coverage is shared between the employee and MMC. Midland’s
Choice, MMC's health plan, is a Preferred Provider Organization
(PPO). This is defined as a network of doctors, hospitals, and other
health care providers who are referred to as preferred or participating
providers and are considered to be "in network." By using
the doctors, hospitals, and other providers or facilities in the
network, you can receive the maximum benefits under your plan.
Life Insurance - MMC provides all full-time and part-time employees
with life insurance coverage on the first of the month following
30 days of employment. Amount of coverage will be 1 x annual wage
with a minimum of $5,000 coverage and an equal amount of 1 x annual
wage for Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D). Employees may
purchase additional life insurance and dependent life insurance
at group rates.
Dental Insurance - Full-time and part-time employees are eligible
for dental insurance coverage on the first of the month following
30 days of employment. After a $50 deductible, plan pays 80% restorative
service and 50% prosthodontic services. Preventive services are
paid at 100%. Dependent coverage is also available. The cost for
dental coverage is shared between the employee and MMC.
Long-Term Disability Coverage - MMC provides all full-time employees
with long-term disability coverage on the first of the month following
30 days of employment. Benefits are payable after 90 days of disability
at 60% of regular monthly salary up to $5,000.
Medical Malpractice Coverage - MMC provides protection for claims
asserted against any employee while acting within the scope of duty.
Flex Spending Accounts Health Care & Dependent Care Accounts -
Full-time and part-time employees are eligible. These special accounts
provide significant tax savings on payments for health care expenses
not covered by insurance and for dependent care expenses. Health
and dental insurance premiums are automatically payroll deducted
on a pre-tax basis.
Time Off
Paid Time Off (PTO) - Full-time and part-time employees are eligible
upon employment. PTO is a flexible time-off program for vacations,
holidays, illness or personal reasons. Employees accrue PTO each
pay period, based on a percentage of the employee's paid hours.
During the first year of full-time employment, employees can accumulate
up to 25 days of PTO. The accrual rate will increase at the beginning
of the 5th, 10th, and 20th years of employment at MMC. After 20
years, employees can accumulate nearly 8 weeks of PTO per year.
Leave of Absence - A Leave of Absence for up to 1 year may be utilized
for medical, educational, and personal reasons. Full-time and part-time
employees are eligible after twelve months of employment.
Retirement Plan
All employees are eligible to participate in the MMC Retirement
Program. The Retirement Program consists of a Pension Plan, a 403(b)
Retirement Savings Plan, including Employer Matching Contributions,
and Social Security. By taking advantage of all these tools, both
you and MMC work together to secure your financial future.
- The Pension Plan is a component of the Retirement Program that
rewards vested employees financially at retirement for their hard
work and long-term commitment to MMC. Through the Pension Plan,
employees receive monthly retirement income at age 65 based on
their compensation and years of service. An early retirement benefit
is available at age 55 or older, as well as a disability benefit
if you become disabled while employed at MMC. Employees are vested
in the Pension Plan after five years of service. (One year of
vesting service is granted for 1,000 or more hours of service
in each calendar year.) MMC makes all the necessary contributions
to the pension fund. Employees are not required to make any contributions
to receive a pension benefit.
- The 403(b) Retirement Savings Plan allows employees to make
voluntary pre-tax contributions through payroll deduction into
an account specifically for retirement. When you participate in
the Retirement Savings Plan, MMC will provide a 100% matching
contribution on the first $500 of your contribution. Then, MMC
will match 50% of your additional contributions, for a total MMC
match equaling 2% of your annual compensation (or $500 if greater).
Employees are vested in the Matching Contributions after 3 years
of vesting service.
- Social Security is the benefit you receive during retirement.
This benefit is based on your earnings and the contributions you
made while you were working. MMC also contributes on your behalf
an amount equal to the amount you contribute to Social Security.
Education
Continuing Education Units - Many in-house CEU programs are sponsored
through our Provider 51 program.
Educational Assistance - Following six months of employment, full-time
and part-time (32 or more hours per pay period) employees are eligible
for tuition reimbursement for a maximum benefit each year of $2,000
for full-time employees and $1000 for part-time employees.
